Splash Pad, SnoKaps, and a blanket

I met up with my friend Leesha and her sister Shawnee at the splash pad a couple of weeks ago. Gus wasn't so sure about it, but there were a ton of kids there and he just wanted to go down the slide.  Amy, Kinlee, Kason, Gus, and I went to SnoKaps a few weeks ago. We are going to make it a Tuesday night tradition because both of our husbands have scouts and we love that place. The last few pictures are of a blanked that I made Deloy Emmett. He is a big scouter in Southern Utah and has saved all of his handkerchiefs he has received over the years. the red one he wore forty years ago. It took me forever and a day to finish it, but he loves it. I had the main street quilt shop quilt it with fleur de lis all over it, and the back was forest green flour de lis fabric. I am GLAD I am done with it!!!!!!!!! Emphasis on the exclamation. It shouldn't of taken me as long as it did, but for some reason I got the top made and couldn't force myself to finish it. There are definitely a couple of mistakes, but Deloy said he won't look at those.

Slime

Slime! The one thing I wanted as a kid, but my mom would never buy for me. As Kyle said "my mom would never buy it for us because she said we would put it on the walls and make grease marks" So Gus' friends/cousins came over the other night to play which gave me the perfect opportunity to make one of my pins off of pinterest!

All you do is dissolve one teaspoon of borax in one cup of water, set that aside. Then pour 1 full bottle of Elmer's school glue into a bowl, and add a little water and food coloring. Once the borax is dissolved pour into the glue mixture and knead. It will start to clump up and that is when you take it out of the bowl and need on the counter until you have your desired consistency!

Projects

Kyle and I have a little bit of a problem, we get really attached to t shirts. So we started making a pile of shirts to make into a quilt. The pile grew and grew and grew and by the time I got to it we had enough t shirts for a king sized quilt. Some of the shirts are from our trip to Europe in 2005 so they are pretty old!

I made the below quilt in February, and just finished it last month. The plan was to hand quilt it, but after just 20 minutes and only two inches of quilting done I decided I would just pay for it to get quilted. My neighbor has a fancy quilting machine so I took it to her. I love how it turned out!

My photo collage wall was the brain child of our fabulous friends the Funderburks. It is still a work in progress but I am loving how it is coming together. I made the B with yarn and a wood B. I think I am going to make a smaller pendant banner, well not smaller just smaller pendants with more patterns and texture to them.

This is part of Miss Macy's birthday present. It is a reversible apron, with a detachable flower so it can be washed:) Gus loves it, and Kyle wasn't thrilled I made Gus try it on. I had to though, I just traced an apron I had as a kid and wanted to make sure it was the right size. Hopefully it fits miss macy!

I know what you are thinking chevron stripes are so trendy right now, but I had to do it. This is a door that leads to a tiny shed in our car port. I finished painting the car port the new gray we picked out, and the door just needed something. Pretty crazy, but I kinda like it!

My mom gave me this cool old window over a year and I am now just getting to it. I put the three hooks (from Shelbie via an anthro gift card thanks again) on the bottom, then stapled chicken wire over the glass part. I have needed a place for my jewelery since we got married, and this is the perfect place. I haven't wanted to buy any jewelery because I have had no where to store it, but no longer is that an excuse my friends! Look at all of the room I have for new jewelery:)

QUIETBOOKERS

I was feeling a little less enthused about the quiet book pages I chose. For weeks I put off even working on the page. The page I chose (Mr. potato head, and then the counting page) just wasn't floatin my boat. So I brainstormed and came up with this page. I have only been working on it for 2 days and I am almost done with all of them. It is crazy, once I chose a page I was excited to create, I couldn't stop making them! So my page is a braiding page!! How are your pages coming? My thoughts on dispersing the pages are as follows.

Send 9 of your completed pages to Emily and she will disperse one page to each of the following girls. (They all live near her) Jen, Nicole, Lindsey, Tara (&Dallas), Andrea, Emily, Leslie, and Mindee

Quiet Book Group

Fishy Fishy Quiet Book Page

Finally!!! I am almost done with these blasted but cute quiet book pages. It has been fun, I find it relaxing to sit and sew/create these pages. I joined a group of nine girls and we are all making nine pages of the same thing then trading when we are all done. So when all is said and done I will have a nine page quiet book. My page is a fishing page. The fish are filled with a magnet and at the end of the fishing pole will be a magnet covered by a worm. I got super strong magnets so it will work through the felt. The kids fish for the fishy then match the fish with the corresponding color on the page. I am excited to see everyones creations. I am thinking of doing another group, would anyone want to join?

Things left to do on the page

1. sew colored blocks together

2. create a cute worm/magnet

3. cut out nine fish bowls gray felt

4. cut out nine fish bowls vinyl (I love the vinyl it makes it look like it really is glass.

4. cut out 18 seaweed pieces

5. cut out 9 sand bottoms

6. stitch the fish tails closed

7. sew fish bowl together

8. sew a little pocket for fishing pole to rest in on bottom

the end...

I was going to wait and blog about my quilt after it was all finished, but I literally think it is going to take the rest of my life to hand quilt the dang thing.

I made these cute shirts for Gus. Don't judge it was my first attempt at a t shirt for the little guy. I made them too small so I will try again tomorrow.

So here's the step-by-step. I purchased three cardboard "E's" from JoAnn Fabrics. They were such a steal! {Sorry, forgot to photograph before painting, but just picture plain cardboard letters and you get the idea. I'm sure most of you have seen these around in craft stores...}

I spray painted one in a turquoise paint, another one black {I'll get to how it turned "zinc" in a moment}, and the edges of the largest "E" red. All were colors that I already had in the garage.

For the largest "E", I traced the letter on two pieces of striped scrapbooking paper I found at Hobby Lobby and then decoupaged the pieces onto both sides of the letter. {the rusty look was already part of the paper, I didn't do anything there.}

For the "zinc" one {which totally rivals the zinc letters you'll pay anywhere from $18 to $98 for at Anthropologie, even up close!}, I took my "E" that had been sprayed black, and with a dry paintbrush applied Folk Art's Enamels Metallic Silver Sterling acrylic paint. I could rave about this product! In a very random fashion I applied the paint, occasionally wiping my brush dry again. I made sure to let the black show through a bit in some areas. In no time I had a lightweight {cheap! cheap!} "zinc" letter. {And yes, I'm totally planning to exploit this technique on many future projects, I was so pleased with the results.}

NEXT I WANT TO MAKE THIS NECKLACE FROM ANTHRO. ALL I NEED IS LEATHER AND A CHAIN SUPER EASY.

Temple Pic Fishing

Kyle caught his fish of the season a couple of weeks ago. I told him it should prob be his last one before the baby because it is three hours away and he doesn't get service. I told Kyle the fish doesn't look very good, but I guess the black on its lip is normal, I think it looks diseased.

Below is a pic of the Kona Hawaii Temple I framed at my sisters super saturday. Not a very good pic of it, but it looks really good. We did it through Poppy Seed Projects, look them up they have some cute ideas and classes you can do.

Halloween Craft

Glitter-fyed!! That is how I can describe this magical crafty evening. We (Aim and I) got together at Angie's last week to make this adorable happy halloween banner! There was glitter flying everywhere. I wanted to do triangles like Ang did, but math is pretty hard so I stuck with squares:) Maybe for christmas I will learn how to make a triangle:)

The above picture is of cupcake toppers I made over the weekend. Aren't they cute! I think I am going to save them for the baby blessing.

my mom gave us this changing table some renters had left behind so I painted it and I found the cute lime green baskets at target for $2.50.

this is the carseat canopy I made. I found the cutest fish fabric at lazy daisy cottage. You can't tell but the fabric on top has little fish in the brown part.

this is my fave quilt I have made so far. the reverse side is minky and this side has the cutest snails and mushrooms all over it.

I bought the owl quilt a year ago and I was going to make it for one of Kyle's sisters who had boys, but as you can see that didn't happen. So now the owl quilt belongs to Gus/Finn. more projects to come...

Domesticated

About a month ago I attended Wacky Wednesday (trying to become domesticated you see;) a day our Relief Society puts aside for strict craft making. While I was there a couple of lady's in my ward had these cute vintage Singer Featherweight sewing machines. So I went straight home and bid on ebay to see how high the bidding would go, well needless to say it didn't go as high as I thought because I won the bid. Below is my winning. I absolutely love it, the project below the machine is my first finished project done by my 1936 featherweight.
