Sunday Drive

Can you guess where we went for a Sunday drive? Ok I will tell you since you can barely see because of all of the snow. We wanted to drive down the canyon in Zion, but didn't even get to the Lodge before we had to turn around. It just kept getting worse and worse. Gus did great. I kept thinking of a dumb Hallmark hall of fame movie Rachelle loves while we were driving in the snow, where the mom gets stuck in the snow and has to leave her child in a cave while she goes to get help. Can't even imagine having to do that.

photo shoot sneak peak

I can not wait to see the rest of the pics Dallas Sullivan took. She sent me these as a little teaser, they aren't edited at all either. She is amazing!! Our little guy was perfect during the shoot, minus me getting pooped on (yuck) first time and I am sure not the last time for that:)

Thankful

I am thankful this Thanksgiving to the two most amazing boys in my life!! Kyle has been so helpful since Gus has arrived. He is an amazing husband and I am grateful he is in my life:)

The chunk

I had to capture his double chin he has been working on this past week. I love this pic because it shows his butt chin just like his dads:)

we are trying to adjust to our new life as parents. Gus has been so much fun this past week minus the no sleep hours of the night. For some reason he thinks it is perfectly normal to be wide awake from 12-1 and 3-4 in the morning, and that is not counting the hours I am awake feeding the little chunk. He had an appointment on Monday and he dropped to 6.7 four days later he got his foreskin removed and had gained 12 ounces. That is 4 ounces short of 1 pound in four days, he loves to eat!! Like his mom an dad:)

Gus' Firsts

After many try's Mommy finally captured a smile

Daddy changed his first poopy diaper. I think Kyle's face is priceless

I had my first bath, I was screaming until I got put on my belly and found my thumb.

Gus' Birth Day

The start of a long but most rewarding day
He came out sucking his thumb:)

It all started on Thursday November 11th at 5:40 am. I got a call from the labor and delivery unit (Kim Postma) saying it was time to have a baby. So we rushed to get ready and be there by 6:30 am. I got there got hooked up and that is when the fun began. They started the pitocin around 7:20 am and didn't stop the drip until 5:51 am the next day. Yep, thats 24 hours of contractions, 24 hours of labor, 24 hours of sitting at the hospital, and 24 hours of anticipation. We tried to get some rest that night, Kyle slept on the yucky hospital floor for awhile. I was going to try to go without the epidural, but had an open mind knowing labor is much harder when you are induced. It was around 12:30 or 1 in the afternoon that I decided the epidural was a much needed drug. I went to the hospital dilated to a two, and at the time I decided to get the epidural five or six hours later I was only a three. I knew I was in for a long labor and was starting to get nauseous because of the pain, so I said bring on the drugs. Little did I know that at 8:00 pm that night I would only be dilated to a four. My Dr. said that failure to progress or being stuck at a four for more than 2 hours would mean I would have to go cesarean. I really really didn't want that to happen. The next time the nursed checked me I think I was a five and things just started to get better after that. My poor mom came to the hospital around 11:30 am and stayed the whole time. My sisters came around 8:00 or 9:00 pm stayed for a while then we told them we would call when I got close. So around 1 or 2 am we called telling them I was finally at an 8 so to come on over. Little did they know it was going to take me four more hours to dilate two more centimeters!! I was reluctant to have the sis' come, but was glad after the whole ordeal it was nice having them there. At 5 am I started pushing and fifty one minutes later I delivered the cutest, most healthy baby boy ever!!

My Birthright, My ManChild, My Son, My Gus

99 Post, 100 post will be after our Man Child arrives
In no particular order reasons for the name Augustus Kyle Ballard

1. Main character's name in favorite book/soon to be movie, "The River Why" by David James Duncan
2. Main character in another awesome book/movie, "Lonesome Dove", by Larry Mcmurtry
3. One of my favorite fishing authors name is A.K. Best, would have same initials.
4. When you miss a big fish, its usually referred to as Gus.
5. Augustus Dodge is a name of a 4th great grandpa of mine that was part of the Mormon Battalion and was one of the founders of Toquerville.
6. Found out the other night from my girl Shirles(Shirley Last), that the late Garth Last was referred to as "Gus" most of his life.
7. Manly name
8. You can't not like a kid named Gus
9. Not the best friend of Mark Antony or the guy killed by Brutus., he was weak:)
10. Did i mention it is manly.
11. Augustus is a Latin derived word with Augment, to make greater... manly
12. Not from the fat kid in Willy Wonka that drinks the chocolate river or the fat mouse off of Cinderella.
13, My grandma doesn't like Finn, she says I was watching to much Law & Order, lol
14. Its in the Bible baby, Remember who got Jesus to Bethlehem, BOOM
Other names considered: Finn Augustus Ballard and Duncan Kyle Ballard

This has been a topic of great debate between Kyle and me. From the list above you can see I rarely won the debate. I have been totally against the name since he said his first boy would be named this (about a year and a half ago). I like Gus, it is just that Augustus is a pretty distinct and unique name. After a discussion with Shirls the other night she said it is distinguished and she promises that this boy would turn out like all of her sons so I had to agree:)

Jazzy Jets

The hubby thought today would be a good day to post about the onesies I made for the babe. Kyle loves them! Also, we bought this funky cool antique chair at urban renewal last week for the babe's room. Now if he would just get here so I can stop trying to keep myself busy.

more halloween

Just a pic to remind me of how crazy my mom is. She was a rockstar, if you can't tell, with a head mic and everything. She always goes all out dressing up. I think that is where Naomi gets it from.
