Scrabble and the Bumbo

Pretty intense game of scrabble Kyle is barely winning. We put it on hold for another night.

I bought this Bumbo at a yard sale in San Luis Obispo last summer, and just realized the mister probably would fit in it now. I think it is going to be my new best friend in the kitchen. Gus just has to be in there with me cooking.

Pecans Pecans

Annual pecan pick up took place today at the madres house. She only shook 2 trees thank goodness, so we only were there an hour compared to three or four. This year the trees didn't have very many because they trimmed them so much last year. We were all grateful for the tree trimming. Don't get me wrong we LOVE to pick up pecans;/ just not 5 trees worth!! This was Gus' first but not last pecan pick up party!

Vingt Sept Anniversaire

Closer to 30 than to 25 seems old. I have had a very lovely birthday, birthdays are even better when you have kids I have discovered. The girls got together for some CFR(cafe freakin' rio), and me and the mom did some shopping. I made homemade pizza for dinner, and we got blizzards for my birthday cake (I am not one for cakes). The husband got me 2 of the best smelling candles ever and my favorite hairspray and a gift certificate to visit my long lost favorite hairstylist (aside from Tenny and Tan). This is my GOLDEN year I am 27 and my birthday is the 27th so we will see if it really is fabulous.

You Got Jimmered

Steve and Gus watching a little basketball

Dinner with the Baccioccos, I think yes! Watch a little BYU basketball even better. Jill made a delicious pasta dish which I will be making shortly. Then we had us a little Jimmer Fredette fix.

to the DUNES

We took Gus on his first rhino ride today. We met up with the Funderburks and some of their friends at the sand dunes. Gus did great, basically slept whenever we were riding around.

Haircut

Gave the little mister his first haircut this morning. Luckily it turned out better then my bangs did :/ Lets just say I am never cutting my bangs myself again!! Lesson learned
I have had numerous people tell me this week he looks just like me. Whoever he looks like he is one stinkin cute mister!!

Projects

I was going to wait and blog about my quilt after it was all finished, but I literally think it is going to take the rest of my life to hand quilt the dang thing.

I made these cute shirts for Gus. Don't judge it was my first attempt at a t shirt for the little guy. I made them too small so I will try again tomorrow.

I have a crafting bug right now. I want to make a cool zinc A for Gus' room. Slum I know you have wanted to buy one forever, now you can just make it. courtesy www.lifeabundant.blogspot.com

So here's the step-by-step. I purchased three cardboard "E's" from JoAnn Fabrics. They were such a steal! {Sorry, forgot to photograph before painting, but just picture plain cardboard letters and you get the idea. I'm sure most of you have seen these around in craft stores...}

I spray painted one in a turquoise paint, another one black {I'll get to how it turned "zinc" in a moment}, and the edges of the largest "E" red. All were colors that I already had in the garage.

For the largest "E", I traced the letter on two pieces of striped scrapbooking paper I found at Hobby Lobby and then decoupaged the pieces onto both sides of the letter. {the rusty look was already part of the paper, I didn't do anything there.}

For the "zinc" one {which totally rivals the zinc letters you'll pay anywhere from $18 to $98 for at Anthropologie, even up close!}, I took my "E" that had been sprayed black, and with a dry paintbrush applied Folk Art's Enamels Metallic Silver Sterling acrylic paint. I could rave about this product! In a very random fashion I applied the paint, occasionally wiping my brush dry again. I made sure to let the black show through a bit in some areas. In no time I had a lightweight {cheap! cheap!} "zinc" letter. {And yes, I'm totally planning to exploit this technique on many future projects, I was so pleased with the results.}

NEXT I WANT TO MAKE THIS NECKLACE FROM ANTHRO. ALL I NEED IS LEATHER AND A CHAIN SUPER EASY.

Poor little guy got his shots today. I never thought it would bother me watching him get his shots, but I felt so bad for him. Penny gave him a prescription for pepcid so hopefully that helps him. I have tried eliminating dairy, chocolate, veggies (who are we kidding I don't eat very many but its a new years res:), keeping him inclined after he eats, mylicon for gas, and a rice pack on his belly. He gets fussy an hour after he eats then starts spitting up a ton. That is the only time he is fussy, he is such a good baby. Its worse in the evenings so hopefully pepcid is our answer.

to my 2 month mister

This is you and roarbert. Your face is too funny in this pic.
Oh little mister you are so stinkin cute. You have more and more personality every day. Just the other day you laughed out loud for the first time which melted my heart. You hate when I have dairy, you scream until four in the morning, so I haven't had any for a whole week. That is one full week of no ice cream for you little mister. You have been the best sleeper as of late. Just the other night I put you down at 11 and you didn't wake up until 5:30 then after you ate you slept until 9. Your eyes are starting to look like they are brown and your hair is getting longer. You smile constantly, especially when someone talks to you and gives you attention. You are cooing and babbling a lot these days. You love bath time and will kick your feet like crazy in the water. You have outgrown your newborn clothes finally and your little legs are getting rolls:) Your dad is trying to teach you how to suck your thumb as I am typing this. I don't know if I want you to because I can't take your thumbs away from you like binki. I have so much fun with you everyday and you could never know how much I love you!

1 of Gus' first g-friends

Gus met Kinlee Halterman for the first time. He was super enchanted by her little dimples. They were due on the same day, but Kinlee came 5 days early and I went 10 days over. They both weighed 7.3 and were 21" long. I wish they lived closer so they could be running stroller mates with me and Brittany.

laughter is the best medicine

Today was the first day Gus laughed out loud. It was the cutest sound I have ever heard. I ran into the kitchen and got the camera and tried my best to capture it:) Don't mind my voice:)

Yum

Chilli's Chicken Enchilada Soup
  1. 1 Add 1 tablespoon of oil to a large pot over medium heat.
  2. 2 Add chicken breasts to pot and brown for 4-5 minutes per side.
  3. 3 Set chicken aside.
  4. 4 Add onions and garlic to pot and sauté over medium heat for about 2 minutes, or until onions begin to become translucent.
  5. 5 Add chicken broth.
  6. 6 Combine masa harina with 2 cups of water in a medium bowl and whisk until blended.
  7. 7 Add masa mixture to pot with onions, garlic and broth.
  8. 8 Add remaining water, enchilada sauce, cheese and spices to pot and bring mixture to a boil.
  9. 9 Shred the chicken into small, bite-size pieces and add it to the pot.
  10. 10 Reduce heat and simmer soup for 30-40 minutes or until thick.
  11. 11 Serve soup in cups or bowls, and garnish with shredded cheddar cheese, crumbled corn tortilla chips, and pico de gallo.
**The soup was extra thick so I just added more water to thin it a little. I used green enchilada sauce, I think red would have tasted better. Turned out super yummy!

Blessing Day

Today Gus was blessed. Kyle did a fabulous job, he was so nervous, he gave the best blessing. Of course we had to take lots of pictures to capture the moment. Gus is wearing Kyle's blessing outfit and booties from when he was blessed 25 years ago. Verna Southers made him the blanket:) Kyle wanted Gus to have a Jerry Garcia tie like him so we went and bought the same tie and I made him a little bow tie. Pretty cute kid if I don't say so myself. Gus was so good during everything, he even slept 6 straight hours last night!!
