Sister Stratton’s Miracle

(An actual event)
“She can’t see! The fever has left Sister Stratton completely blind!” The news swept rapidly through the little pioneer town of Virgin, Utah. Sister Emily Amanda Gardner Stratton, beloved Primary president in the Virgin Ward, had lost her sight following a sudden illness. She had lovingly and faithfully served the children in this southern Utah town for 15 years, and she had helped many of the ward members in times of trouble. Now she needed help. But what could the children and ward members do?
The local doctor had done everything he could for her and had advised her family to take her to the nearest hospital, which was in St. George, Utah. He said her only hope of seeing again was to receive the help available at the hospital.
For weeks, the doctors in St. George tried every treatment they knew, but nothing worked. When their last treatment failed, Sister Stratton sent word that she wanted to come home.
The children and Primary workers in Virgin had prayed diligently for her recovery. When they learned the doctors had given up, they were even more determined to do whatever they could to help their dedicated Primary president.
Someone suggested they hold a special fast for her. The children knew that if they fasted and prayed with faith, Heavenly Father would help Sister Stratton in ways they could not. Heavenly Father would hear their prayers and answer them according to His will.
It was difficult to go all day without food, but even the youngest Primary children fasted and prayed for their beloved leader.
That evening, they all met at the tiny meetinghouse to close their fast with prayer. Afterward, they felt great peace and joy and knew that Heavenly Father had heard their prayers. The sunset was glorious, casting rays of red and gold throughout the western sky as they went to their homes.
A few days later, Sister Stratton’s wagon creaked as it rolled along the dusty road toward Virgin. The children and Primary leaders hurried to greet her and tell her of their special fast.
“What time was your fast meeting, children?” Sister Stratton asked.
“It was at sunset!” one child exclaimed.
Sister Stratton sat back. Her eyes filled with tears as she spoke. “At sunset on that day, I was sitting in a chair by the west window of my hospital room. As I looked up, I saw the sunset for the first time since the fever stole my sight. Yes, children, I can see!”
The loving prayers and faithful fasting of the Virgin Ward Primary had been answered with a miracle. For the rest of Sister Stratton’s life, she was blessed with perfect eyesight.

This is who I (Emily) was named after

Augustus, Augustus, and Augustus

We decided for the Memorial Day weekend we would take Gus to meet a couple of his namesakes. First, we went to the St. George cemetery to see Augustus Poore Hardy's grave. He was the first sherrif in St. George. We really like his headstone.

Augustus Kyle at Augustus Poore Hardy's grave

The Hardy House is in Ancestor Square, right next to the Pasta Factory. We have never noticed this plaque before, read the story on the plaque it is quite interesting!

Then we drove to the Toquerville cemetery to visit his other namesake.

Augustus Kyle at Augustus E. Dodge's grave
Gus was quite enthralled by the flag. Augustus E. Dodge was part of the Mormon Battalion. The circular plaque Gus is sitting by is behind Augustus E. Dodge's headstone, and states he was in the Mormon Battalion.

fishy fishy fishy

This last picture is the result of poor sunscreen application. Poor kid. He couldn't sleep last night so we had to take him on a drive at midnight. I gave him some tylenol and put some aloe vera on it and when we got back he slept five hours straight! Thats a big deal in this household:) We dunked the little fish multiple times again and not a whimper was let out. We love that he is loving the water.

In memoriam of Carol Jackson Collins

Carol Jackson Collins
Carol is my grandmother, my grandmother I have never met. She passed away when my mom was only 6 weeks old. She was living in Seattle because my Grandpa Ova Collins was in the military. As the story goes my mom's grandma Stratton (my ggma), went to Seattle picked up my Mom and her siblings, and the casket, and took the train to Cedar city. I guess my mom screamed the whole time because back in that day they only had canned milk and it spoiled on the trip. When my Grandpa Stratton picked them up in Cedar he said "we will never raise her." Meaning, she was so skinny and sickly looking from not eating, that he didn't think she would survive. Well, she proved him wrong didn't she;)
After Coco's Graduation we went to the St. George cemetery and put flowers on all 3 of my Great Grandma Stratton's kids graves. She had a son named Gerald who died when he was 17, then my mom's mom died, then her son Martin died in 1992. She (my Great Grandma Stratton) buried all three of her kids. Now that is something I never want to have to experience ever!! They are all buried there because she lived in St. George while she was a nurse at the hospital.

Coco Graduates!

While walking back to the car, Kdiddy got Gus laughing so hard. I was trying to get the cool clouds behind them as well. Just love me some good clouds:)

This poor girl in front of us had no idea what Kyle was doing. Gus loves to pull hair, so Kyle would lean Gus towards her then pull back right before he could get her hair. This little game kept Gus entertained for quite awhile!

swing swing from the tangles of my heart

We hung a swing in one of the fruitless mulberries for the boy. He loves it! We eventually tied a long rope to it so we could sit on the comfy seats on the porch and just pull him. A little white trash you might say, Kyle just says its smart trash. Gus seriously was swinging for an hour this evening!
We painted the trim as you can see behind Kyle. We don't know if we like it, it does look better then the chipping brown. I also want to paint the door some funky color. Which is your favorite color for a door?

I spray painted the swing to match our retro tulip chairs. I need better white spray paint, words of advice, the more expensive spray paint is worth the extra 2 dollars!

Align Center
This is our neighbor and Gus' biggest fan! She secretly rides her bike halfway to our house then turns around. Gus loves watching her, she is a little timid, but easily one of the cutest girls! She has mastered the art of no training wheels on her bike and she told her mom yesterday that Emily wants to watch me ride my dora bike with no training wheels. Seriously can they come any cuter?

Gus bull doging my ankle. I need to video the bull dogs. He bull dogs my chin, my knee, my ankle, and Kyle's nose.

buddies with benefits... wait a sec!

Gus monster and Macy Moo having a bath together! Say what! Those naked kids are so stinkin' cute! They both had never had a bath sitting up so it was a little bit of a challenge with their grabby hands and slippery bottoms:)

Kyle got home from work and Macy reached for him. Surprising yes, but her daddy has the same facial hair so we think it might have something to do with that!

The kiddos had their very first playdate on Friday, and might I say the little rugrats loved every minute of it! Macy's guardians went to the temple so Kyle and I requested we have a playdate with Macy. She only cried for a minute when she woke up from her nap, I took her outside and the world seemed all right to her after that. Gus just loves to play and watch other little kids so it was quite easy having two little ones. Macy crawled for the first time in her life with us, her parents say she was trying to escape, but I think she was showing off to her BF Gus!

Gonna Party Like It's Your Birthday

wwf minus Ashlee and Dylan, Colby's Fam, and Danny's Fam!

It was my mother's birthday (May 16) and we partied hard. We had races, ate oreos, I made her a cake, and we played on the swings:)
Happy Birthday to the greatest mom and grandma! She has done soooo much for me over the span of my existence and I can't thank her enough. She always has the answers to all of my Gus questions, and I hope she had the best birthday a girl could ask for!

QUIETBOOKERS

I was feeling a little less enthused about the quiet book pages I chose. For weeks I put off even working on the page. The page I chose (Mr. potato head, and then the counting page) just wasn't floatin my boat. So I brainstormed and came up with this page. I have only been working on it for 2 days and I am almost done with all of them. It is crazy, once I chose a page I was excited to create, I couldn't stop making them! So my page is a braiding page!! How are your pages coming? My thoughts on dispersing the pages are as follows.
Send 9 of your completed pages to Emily and she will disperse one page to each of the following girls. (They all live near her) Jen, Nicole, Lindsey, Tara (&Dallas), Andrea, Emily, Leslie, and Mindee
Then send 1 page to SUMMER I will give you her addresses via e-mail or facebook message:)

Brotherly Love

I took my brother (Chance's) engagement photos a couple of weeks ago. I am by no means a photographer, and no I am not starting a photography biz;) I was just a gal with a camera and some pretty cute people to photograph:) Maddox was sooo good the whole time, we just had to use a potty word (poop) over and over and over and over so he would laugh! I am so happy they are getting hitched, Brooke is such a great mom to Maddox and soon to be wife to Chance. Just today I overheard her talking to Maddox and I thought to myself "I hope I have conversations like that with Gus someday." Chance is the happiest I have seen him and can't wait to see their little family grow!!!

side note: photographer friends that read my blog- what setting should I have set my camera to in the first photo so that the mountains have good light and the family? It seemed that if I messed with the f stop thingy either the fam was too dark or the mountains didn't have their pretty colors. Notice how the fam is really dark. Luckily, Brooke's sis IS a good photographer so she photo shoped the pics so the end result is very very cute!

Our little fish

He reminds me of Noah in this picture, always holding something in his hand:)

Our little Gus is basically a fish! He had his first swimming experience and he just loved it! I had a lady at one of Coco's soccer game tell me that Gus has such an old soul. She said he looks around and you can tell he is thinking ya that's pretty cool I will do that someday! It explains him so well, I have actually had multiple people tell me the same thing. So the whole time swimming I could tell he was thinking, ya I am going to swim the shiz out of this pool when I am a little older! We put him under the water 3 times and he didn't shed a tear, but heaven forbid after baths I try to put clothes on him (multiple tears shed:) I have video of one of the dunks, but its currently downloading, I will post it tomorrow.

Good Intentions

We had such good intentions to walk around the track at the annual relay for life, but you as you can see below, these little kiddos got in the way. Evee, Owen, Marsh Man, and Gus Monster had a blast playing together. Oni, Mindee and I had fun reminiscing, we reminisced about the days in middle school walking from Mindee's to Oni's to my house often multiple times a day. Tragically in our lives Mindee had to move our ninth grade year. When she moved we made her a scrapbook and gave her the movie Gattaca, random yes, but we loved that movie (watch the trailer it's pretty hilarious).
